Centre of Excellence for Violin Teaching

Principal : Iveta Hlavenkova

Testimonial from Miss E Dickinson, Head of Music, Lawnswood School

"We have used the Leeds Violin School for our violin lessons for the last year and I have been so impressed with the service. Our teacher, Imogen, is very enthusiastic and talented and really motivates the pupils to practice. Lessons are taught in small groups and on an individual basis and many pupils are taking their exams, after being taught for only one year.

The Leeds Violin School are very accommodating to our needs and keep me updated with pupil attendance and progress. They even hold external performances and events for our pupils to perform in. A fantastic service!"

Lawnswood School, where Leeds Violin School teaches

Lawnswood School in north-west Leeds is a successful comprehensive school for 11-18 year old students

My daughter, 8, really loves her lessons and comes home enthused about what she's been learning that day. She enjoys the little challenges and games she plays with Imogen too, which make her lessons really fun. As part of Leeds Violin School, Isi also gets the benefit of playing with other students and performing in front of friends and family. I would absolutely recommend Leeds Violin School as a fun place to learn, where students gain huge confidence and make great progress in their learning.

"Iveta is an excellent musician and teacher. She is also organised, respectful and friendly, taking a personal interest in all her students. Iveta also takes the trouble to organise workshops, ensembles and performances, giving her students the important opportunity to be part of a musical community."

Testimonial from Rob and Jo Lewis, whose daughter is a student at Leeds Violin School.

"Our daughter thoroughly enjoys her weekly lesson. The lessons are fun and engaging but also very productive! Imogen is very approachable and has really gone the 'extra mile' to help get the best out of our daughter. Imogen is very flexible and understands not only the needs of our daughter but also the needs of our family very well. We are delighted with the service provided and would wholeheartedly recommend Leeds Violin School to potential students."

Child pupil at Leeds Violin School, passed ABRSM exam with Distinction

Testimonial from Justine Brooks, whose 11 year old daughter has recently passed Grade 1 with a Distinction, having achieved a wonderful mark of 134.

"My daughter had been learning the violin for two years in group lessons and was starting to lose enthusiasm - her progress was slow and she didn’t practise. Lessons with Iveta have changed all that. From the first lesson she began to practise regularly and within a few months decided to work towards her Grade 1 exam which she has just passed with a Distinction.

Iveta is an engaging and enthusiastic teacher who conveys her passion for the violin to her students, paying great attention to detail while still allowing for enjoyment and fun."

Testimonial recommending Leeds Violin School

Testimonial from Mr & Mrs Stevens, whose daughter has been having violin lessons with Iveta Hlavenkova for two years and gained a Distinction in her most recent violin exam.

"We wanted to find a violin teacher for our then, 6 year old daughter. There are many instrument tutors who take short cuts, which as you would progress up the grade examinations would need to be "re-learnt" and work hard to fix bad habits. After a detailed search, we thought that Iveta would be perfect for our daughter's needs.

There is no-one who could be a better teacher than Iveta. Her enthusiasm and love for the violin encourages everyone to improve and be the best they can be. Organising concerts and violin groups of mixed ages and abilities gives all of her students confidence to perform, and creates an extended family atmosphere.  Iveta actively encourages parents to attend their child's lesson (if they wish!). This helps a huge amount with home practice. Knowing the correct techniques ensures that problems are spotted, corrected or highlighting problems in the lesson. Almost as an extension of Iveta herself.

After 2 years of lessons our daughter has turned into a great violinist. She has progressed further than I could have hoped, in such a short amount of time. She gained a distinction in her last exam, and has performed in many concerts at the Yorkshire College of Music & Drama, Leeds College of Music, as well as in her school. All of this has been achieved by a combination of great teaching, tutoring me to supervise practice at home, talent, and of course hard work. Myself, my husband and daughter are extremely grateful with everything that Iveta has done for us."
