Centre of Excellence for Violin Teaching

Principal : Iveta Hlavenkova

Leeds Violin School believes that sharing knowledge and experiences is one of the best ways to develop as a musician, and that joining others in music-making will benefit the student in a number of different ways.

Group Learning

In the Junior Violin Group, which is led by the Principal of Leeds Violin School, violin teacher Iveta Hlavenkova, children take part in a range of activities designed for specific purposes.

This friendly group is complementary to individual lessons and aims to improve the students' overall musical ability in an enjoyable and fun way, offering the opportunity to make new friends at the same time.

Part of each class is devoted to learning new tunes to play together as a group, which teaches the children rhythm skills as well as intonation and technique.  Some of the pieces of music learnt by the Junior Violin Group are simplified classical arrangements, but the group is also introduced to playing folk tunes.  In addition, each child is given the opportunity to play a solo piece for the rest of group in order to develop self-confidence at performing in front of others.

Towards the end of each session, musical games are played to help the children learn about music theory, composers' lives, music history or some other aspect of music.
